Helicopter
Tour Provides Unique Nicaragua View
Hovering above
Nicaragua with a view that would make the Greek god Zeus jealous, U.S.
expatriate Max Trost looks down through the glass bubble of his helicopter
and is reminded of Alaska.
Trost might be
the first person to ever compare Nicaragua to Alaska, but the veteran
freelance pilot, who has logged flight hours all around the world, sees the
similarities.
“They are both
frontiers,” said Trost, 49, who used to fly pontoon bush planes in Alaska.
Nicaragua, he said, is similarly inaccessible by roads, which are often in
poor condition and cover only a small fraction of the expansive country.
Seeing the
need for helicopter services in Nicaragua to view real estate and reach
otherwise unattainable locations on the beaches and mountains, Trost flew
his three-passenger Bell 47 J20 from Costa Rica earlier this year and set up
shop in Granada.
“I think Nicaragua is open for business, the people have been very helpful
here.”

After securing
all his flight permits and a hangar at the Nature Air landing strip in
Granada (perhaps the smallest “international airport” in the world), last
October Trost started Buccaneer Heli-Tours S.A., Nicaragua’s only private
helicopter service for real estate tours viewing.

real-estate development taking off up and down Nicaragua’s west coast, and
the Granada area district. Trost
believes the high end developers will seek out his services for property
viewing. Trost is also available to shoot digital aerial video and still
digital photographs of real estate lots.
“Sooner or
later, the people who need me are going to find me,” he said. Contact

The advantage
of flying a helicopter, Trost said, is that potential buyers and developers
can get a real understanding of the country’s layout with a bird’s eye view
of lots for sale.
The incredible
view from the chopper with the doors removed allows a perfect vantage point
to “discover” new off-the-beaten path plots or beaches for future
development, Trost said.
The helicopter
can also be landed in any area or lot that the pilot deems safe, allowing
clients to check out land from the air and on foot.
Trost said he
will help developers, investors or large real estate dealers
interested in becoming fractional owners of his helicopter. The arrangement
would work as an aerial time share arrangement, in which each shareholder
would be eligible for a certain number of flying hours each month. For
