The 10 of January were established
officially as the day of the taking of presidential possession, in
tribute to the memory of doctor Pedro Joaquin Chamorro Cardinal (PJCh),
the Martyr of the Public Liberties and Director Martyr of the PRESS,
to that they assassinated the 10 of January of 1978 to prevent that
it continued fighting by the freedom, the democracy and a new way -
decent and responsible to govern in Nicaragua.
In fact, doctor Pedro Joaquin Chamorro
Cardinal was the exemplary politician who had the moral formation,
amplitude of sights and appropriate professional preparation that is
required to govern the country correctly. Unfortunately for
Nicaragua, by the lack of freedom of the town to choose to his
governors doctor Chamorro Cardinal he did not have the opportunity
to exert the public power in benefit of the town, to which he
consecrated his existence and by which until gave his life.
The ideas of doctor Chamorro Cardinal
about how the country is due to govern, were progressive, honest,
clear and precise. He repudiaba the caudillismo that has governed
almost always the country, condemning it to the misfortune. On the
matter Cardinal said to doctor Chamorro who “the President cannot be
the referee of all the problems, the one that takes part when there
are numerous inheritances in lawsuit, to fix to the parts; the one
that verifies unfinished marriages; the one that removes and puts
people of the jail; the one that gives free passages, telephones or
kilowatts; the one that feels in its table to eat to the politicians
for “fixing the country…” That is to say, the caudillo.
According to doctor Chamorro Cardinal the
governor is - or must be “an administrator to whom pays itself to
him so that he administers; a public prosecutor who watches the
goods of a community, absolutely other people's to its property; an
employee which, it jeopardize to employ its by a wage, cannot
perceive, neither indirectly speaking, the more goods that the
derivatives of the exercise of its position through a wage. The
government is not a gangue”.
For doctor Chamorro Cardinal the
government had almost exclusively to be “an instrument directed main
and to the benefit of poorest, while there are poor men”. But in
their ideal social justice and the fight against the poverty had to
go of the hand with the strict respect to the individual freedom of
the person.
Certainly, doctor Chamorro Cardinal did
not admit that to govern in favor of the poor men it was necessary
to sacrifice the dignity and the individual freedom, “to oppose the
human nature, to turn to the man a slave” of the totalitarian State.
For that reason he raised that “the Government must be an authentic
product of the town, and also of the influence of the industralist
who is forced to participate in the public thing, because indeed
must direct an important part of its management to the production of
the communal property”.
He is opportune to now remember these
ideas of doctor Chamorro Cardinal - that can be read in the book the
Mother country of Pedro-, that when commemorating itself the twenty
ninth anniversary of its murder, is carried out the taking
possession of a new governor who in his proclamations declares
indeed that she wants to eradicate the poverty.
By the way which this same person who
today assumes the position of President of the Republic, already
governed previously with that same flag of fight against the
poverty. Nevertheless, which made the time previous was to increase
the number of poor men in Nicaragua and, in addition, to sacrifice
the individual freedom of the people before the repressive power of
a police and militarista State.
Now this President will not have the
pretexts that he had in the Eighties to attempt against the
individual freedom, to deny the democracy and to sink for all time
to the Nicaraguans in the worse situation of poverty. So that this
time has the obligation to fulfill its promises and to govern with
responsibility, with respect to the freedom and the rights of all
the Nicaraguans, not only of its those in favor.
We want that Daniel Ortega is successful
with his new government, because its failure would mean - another
time the ruin of all the town of Nicaragua. And to be now a better
governor, president Ortega would have to learn of the lessons of
doctor Pedro Joaquin Chamorro Cardinal. Hopefully that thus is.
