New government, atmosphere and investment

We attended the honeymoon of the presidential crossing. Safe by the police and military unfolding never before sight around a civic act of this nature, the life follows its course daily stops most of the citizens.

Beginning of a new era? Perhaps. To thus the salient President proclaimed it at his moment, to only take soon step to more of the same and finishing in the same. The new government presided over by the commander Daniel Ortega, will have to now pay special problematic attention to the environmental one, of the natural resources and of the investment if he wants to demonstrate will to fulfill a government program who since he is fiance', he is effective and effective in the combat against the poverty and the delay that anchor the development and the well-being of the Nicaraguans.

Until now the governments who have governed the destinies of the country they have been able to extend anchylosed practical the economic desarrollistas and depredadoras; they have not been able to equip the country with a strategic vision of economic and social the development that feels the bases of a viable and sustainable Nicaraguan society.

It cannot be avoided that the continuous warlike conflicts that have knocked down to the country and specially to youth, have had by accumulated leading factor the historical one of deep social inequidades, originated not only in the unjust distribution of the wealth, but in a very poor wealth. What great wealth can be distributed in a society whose country shows the innoble title of the second poorer country of the continent?

Of entrance we must be clear that manna of the sky will not fall. That the electoral promises, without one guessed right government management, sincere an economic and social agreement and are transparent, easily they can happen to pave with stones luengo way that takes to the sañudo hell of the social dissatisfactions, and to again feed the fire on the recurrent crises that have consumed the life and the Nicaraguan patrimony of the generation after generation.

Neither the petroleum of president Chávez and his DAWN, nor praised kindness of the Cafta will be varitas magicians who remove to us ahead. Yes it can and one is due to take advantage of such foreign palliatives, but mainly the opportunities must take advantage of that Nicaragua has putting the feet on the Earth at a time of buried globalizada economy and perestroikas. Which are our strengths? In what we have advantages? How we could be more profitable and productive? How to distribute wealth instead of poverty? And first of all: how to generate that wealth?
Are forced questions of which the new government will have to take care. I am of the convinced ones that Nicaragua has very many and very great opportunities, as long as this country lets walk headless, is because the governors have taken care more to put the hand before to fill the coffers of the State simply, or because they have wanted to ingratiate itself with the international organisms without measuring the consequences, or because they have preferred to give the fish before to teach to fish.

I affirm that Nicaragua has very many opportunities because it is a country of young people and it is a country --still-- very rich in natural resources. And this one is a powerful equation to trigger the development with an intelligent, audacious, pragmatic policy, without exclusions and international alignments, in the style of also concluded time of the Cold War.

The main generating source of wealth of a society, is in its labor force. And if we have a young labor force --17 years of medium age-- and we are able to enable it and to technify does not stop it assembles it third-world traditional, but to incorporate the maximum value added to our raw materials and services, then it would only lack to put in his hands the valuable natural resources whereupon it counts the country to begin the beginning of true a new era.

While the investment in education is the route to elevate the quality and the productivity of the labor force, the correct administration of the natural resources and the elements that conform environment, constitutes the physical substrate to lay the the foundations of a sustainable economy. In this scheme the investment is called to to be catalytic or leading factor essential to throw to walk the productive machinery.

Education, environment and investment become trinomio thus perfect. Environment is called to provide the resources to solve the prolonged power crisis and to be more than autosostenibles in that central nerve so parasitado of the economy ( what prevents to emancipate the energies of geotermia, biomass, photovoltaic, hidrogeneración, Aeolian); to solve the nourishing self-sufficiency much more and, initiating at industrial level the organic fresh product production with high value added in the international market, instead of bucólicamente walking thinking about exchanging libritas of frijoles or giving vaquitas for the family.

To take advantage of, also, the comparative advantages that the benefit of environmental services to the light of the treaties offers and international treaties like which they are derived from the Protocol of Kyoto for the carbon capture, creating political and national conditions for their implementation, are only some of the opportunities related for example to the power sector and the forest sector, red squandered whose demand and prices do not show reduction in the medium and long term.

By mainly, in this market of opportunities it appears the tourism, which in spite of the inconsistentes policies whereupon has come seeing to him from the government circles, it has gotten to be elevated in the main currency generating heading of the country. This one is one of the fundamental challenges of the new Government who will preside over the commander Ortega if he wants to gain the confidence and the respect of all the Nicaraguans, of the investors and the international community, whom from now on will be pending of which she fulfills his promises, under the democratic scheme and the democratic rules that has again facilitated him the access to the power, offering him one second opportunity.
